Normal: A normal axillary temperature for a child can vary from 97.8 to 99.5. If your child develops a fever over 99.5 then you should be looking for a source of infection (upper respiratory, skin, diarrhea, etc) Any temperature above 103.5 in a child is considered an emergency and should be seen in an ER.

Not very accurate: Most 8-10 year old can use an oral thermometer.    Axillary readings are not always accurate.  Rectal temps are always the best, but in that age group, it's not easy to get one.

No: Rectal is the gold standard and if that was 37.2, that is completely normal. Waking up sweaty often indicated your temperature was higher and has now returned to normal by your body sweating. It's when you have shakes and chills that it may indicate your temp is going up.

100.4: A true fever is a temperature above 100.4. If your baby is under 8 weeks of age and appears to be ill, it is best to contact your pediatrician. Most accurate method of taking temp in an infant is rectally.  Re salivation, likely normal if baby is happy, eating well and healthy. If baby is sick, has a fever, call pediatrician ASAP

Probably not: Assuming the 5-y-o does not have other symptom beside fever,  he seems recovering from viral illness.
