A member asked:

Just woke up hot and sweaty and took my temperature, axillary was 37.2 and tympanic was 38 both sides when i checked it rectally it was 37.2. fever?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No: Rectal is the gold standard and if that was 37.2, that is completely normal. Waking up sweaty often indicated your temperature was higher and has now returned to normal by your body sweating. It's when you have shakes and chills that it may indicate your temp is going up.
