my 3 mo old wakes up screaming like something is hurting or scaring him...what could cause this?  after a minute or so he usually goes back to sleep

My money's on reflux: A pain cry in a three month old may be related to gastroesophogeal reflux. Food from the stomach sloshes up to the esophagus, which is less protected from an acidic environment. It's like heartburn. Burp your baby well, and hold him in an upright position for 20-30 minutes if you can before you put him down. But because he's so young, check with your doctor. Normal growth/gaining is a reassurance.

i have problem about sleeping. i have to get up to go to the toilet every night and can't go back to sleep well.

No sleep: Have u had workup by your pcp, to rule out things like diabetes, infections, etc.?. Also, if not using alcohol or medications that trigger urinating, try the sleep hygiene techniques.

i am making an effort to get more sleep by going 2 bed earlier. problem is i am waking up at 4 and not going back to sleep. will i adjust? suggest?

Different sleep cycl: some people do well with just 4 to 5 hours a day but maybe just a short nap  midday. Others need 10 or more hours to feel rested and have a clear mind. There are so many variants to a normal sleep cycle. You may have a shorter sleep cycle.  If you feel you have decent focus and concentration along with decent strength or stamina, then you are probably getting enough sleep.

i dont have a problem falling asleep at night, my problem is staying asleep. i consistently wake up around 2:30 / 3 in the morning and find it challenging to get back to sleep. altering the time i go to sleep does not change this. any recommendations on

Sleep: Practice good sleep hygiene. Get rid of devices such as phone, TV or computer. Get ready for bed and typically a book or some reading can help. No stimulants such as coffee at night. Consider a trial of Melatonin.

is it normal for heart rate to be in the 50's when i just wake up from sleep and when trying to get back to sleep? i'm not in shape or exercise. 268lb

Yes: If you feel well, that is fine. "Normal ranges" are usually set so that several percent of healthy folks fall outside. If you are not having fainting spells or chest paint and can keep up in your favorite sports, stop worrying.

Control the anxiety: Either seeing a therapist and/or using medications to control anxiety is the proper treatment. Occasionally biofeedback training can be helpful. Make sure you don't have sleep apnea which can somewhat mimic anxiety in the middle of the night.

Sleep: If possible recommend identifying a period when you can sleep consistently each day, preferably for 6 hours, including off days - consistency for onset/awakening is key for establishing good sleep patterns. A provider visit may be helpful for establishing a concurrent sleep aid. If the shifts vary (ie, night hours one day and day hours the next) achieving restful sleep becomes dificult.
