Acid reflux. : At your age, you’d first need an upper endoscopy (EGD) given this finding of nocturnal reflux. Could just be a hiatal hernia, but we’d need to know for sure. Other than that, raising the head of your bed by elevating it a bit from the floor may help. And don’t eat within 4 hours of going to bed.

GERD: Elevating your bed should help, so is changing your diet to avoid foods that trigger your symptoms.

Possible: Yes, acid reflux is possible, but not the only cause. Another fairly common one is sleep apnea. More history is needed at this time, i'd see your regular doc.

Medication: See your doctor about 'proton pump inhibitors'..They reduce the production of stomach acid (they are available otc). Don't eat within the 90 minutes before bedtime. Avoid alcohol at night. Take an antacid before retiring, with a glass of water. Use pillows to elevate the head.

what is better for chronic acid reflux patient to sleep on right or left side of body at night?

Varies among people: Ideally, one would wear a pH probe while sleeping on the left, the right, and with the upper body elevated, and look at the results to see how much reflux happens in each position. In theory, propping up the upper body creates an anti-reflux position because the stomach acid would have to flow uphill. If a person does not have stuff in the stomach at bed, left or right side shouldn't matter much.

my daughter is 16 and handicapped(low tone/ q43-q44 deletion).  she has acid reflux at night but fine all day.  what can i give her to help?

Can you tell us the : Chromosome on which your daughter has a mutation of the long arm, please? What has been done medically or surgically to treat the ge reflux? Has she had radiologic studies to rule out aspiration? Has a pediatric gastroenterologist performed an endoscopic procedure to look into her esophagus & stomach? Does she have a g-tube, or does she take food orally ? Can she chew & swallow well? Thank you.

Reflux: If you're experiencing true acid reflux it's probably more effective to switch to the ppi class of medications like prilosec or nexium (esomeprazole).  Don't forget to avoid alcohol,caffeine,nicotine or highly spicey foods. If symptoms persist, consult a gastroenterologist for accurate diagnosis and treatment.

Night sweats: Unless the sweats are caused by very warm environment or wearing of too much bed clothing, night sweats warrant an investigation by a physician. Do you have fevers or any other symptoms such as cough,weight loss, swollen lymph nodes, new pain?  I don't think reflux is the cause. Some causes are low testosterone levels, taking aspirin,Tylenol,ibuprofen type meds at night, pain meds,sleep apnea

Sleep apnea: Acid reflux can be caused by sleep apnea so this is one of the reasons thatyou are more aware of it durign the night.  If you snore and feel tired during the daytime, are overweigh or wake up gasping for breath t you may have sleep apnea and not know it.  Talk to your doctor about this.  It may help you and save your life.

i often wake up coughing at night. how do i know if it is due to post nasal drip or silent acid reflux?

Nocturnal cough: Nocturnal coughing may be an asthma reaction without wheezing. Remove dust collectors and pets from bedroom. Use a humidifier if environment is too dry. Post nasal drip would most likely also bother you during daytime. Reflux, if a problem, requires you to avoid eating prior to bedtime and elevating the head of your bed. I assume smoking isn't the problem.
