Yes: There are a few exceptions for infertility cases but for the most part it does not matter if you are still bleeding at the time of endometrial biopsy. In fact, the cervicl os or opening of the cervix is more open than usual making the biopsy slightly easier.

Not easier: Endometrial biopsy is a screening test during which a sample of cells is removed from the lining of the uterus. An endometrial biopsy can be done during your menstrual cycle, but it's better to have it done when you are not on your period. I wish you well with your health!

Not useful: It is not a good time to have endometrial biopsy during your period. Your doctor should consult with a pathologist to pick the right time for the biopsy, depending on the suspected diagnosis.

Accepted Answer

Anovulation: You may be perimenopausal and the spotting relates to the hormonal changes that occurs during this time.  It appears you are on Prometrium (micronized progesterone) as well and this may contribute to the spotting. If the biopsy was normal. The chance of anything significant that may affect your health is very small.

i had an endometrial biopsy on september 6, 2012  and my period has not been on since.  before them it was a normal  monthly cycle. could you address?

Coincidental : An endometrial biopsy would not affect your cycle in the future. This was likely coincidental. At age 49 it is not a surprise that you are starting to miss cycles.

Not really : It is better if we perform outside the period and also generally no need of using cytotec until unless there is cervical stenosis

Not common: The blood transfusion may or may not be related to the absent period, but the endometrial biopsy is. Contact the GYN MD who performed the endometrial biopsy and explain this issue.

im scheduled to have endometrial biopsy & was prescribed to use misoprostol the night before the procedure.should i use it if im starting my period?

Sure.: Cytotec (misoprostol) will soften your cervix and (along with a NSAID such as motrin) can make the endometrial biopsy a much less uncomfortable experience.

im scheduled for endometrial biopsy in the morning and started a heavy period today   also supposed to take misoprostol 3 hours before.  is it safe?

Accepted Answer

EMB: EMB uses a small tube passed into the uterus to form a suction and pull some of the lining cells into it for evaluation.  If your are bleeding it will just fill with blood and will get minimal to no lining so therefore will be a useless test.  Discuss with your GYN but I suspect they will want to delay the EMB for a time when you are not bleeding. If delayed, you don't need the Misoprostol.

hysteroscopy/ endometrial biopsy/ d&c 2 weeks ago. minor bleed 3 days + 4 days spotting postop.  now heavy flow.  period, or problem?

Likely okay: When a woman has a d;c it usually removes her lining.  So long as not soaking a pad in 1-2 hours or less, likely okay. If you're already anemic, however, or have other medical problems, you might want to go to the er to make sure that you're okay.  Heavy flow in and of itself, doesn't really describe how much bleeding you're having.  You can always talk to your doctor or whomever is oncall.
