i bought some nix (permethrin) cream rinse with 1% permethrin. how long do i need to keep it on my skin to treat scabies? or is it strong enough to kill them?

Scabies treamtment: the recommended treat for scabies is  5% pernethrin in a cream form  for   12hour,  The cream rinse would not be enough, also  worry about exposure to the solvant . I will not  use it, also make sure diagnosis is  correct .

Not always: Some sarcoptes scabiei (mite causing scabies) became resistant to nix (permethrin) and requires lindane treatment.

HIV transmission: HIV is spread only by blood and certain other body fluids, including semen and vaginal fluid.  It is not spread by casual contact and it would not be spread by using a Nix (permethrin) styptic pencil as HIV is not spread by contact with environmental surfaces that are not grossly contaminated with the fluid vehicle.

No: The manufacturer recommends to leave it on the patient's hair for 10 minutes. Most importantly, this is an insecticide that paralyze the lice, thus what you want is to grab the fine comb and do an extensive combing as indicated in the instructions, so the patient does not shed the lice all over.
Keep in mind that there is resistance to this type of drugs, thus follow up with pcp is important.

Can happen: Scabies mites burrow into the upper layers of your skin leaving fecal debris behind in their tracts.The formation of skin changes and itching is the bodies allergic response to the fecal debris. This can persist for a period after the mites are dead. An antihistamine taken by mouth along with an over the counter steroid scream may help with the skin &amp; itching.

Nix (permethrin) and toddler: Not an issue    the main ingredient in Nix (permethrin)  is derived from the flower chrysanthemum and is a common ingredient in a lot of household bug sprays.    As long as it dries before they come in contact with it - its NOT a problem.    To eliminate lice in furniture  - you might want to wrap it in a big tarp (like a tent) and use a bug "bomb" aerosol spray.  just air it out afterwards

You need to be seen: The symptoms you are describing  need an evaluation.
You will need an exam and some labs to get an accurate DX.

No: Pyrethrins (active ingredient in nix) are designed to paralyze insects. They do not last long so have very little long term effect. 7 days: In fact doesn't make much difference, 7 days after the first application would be fine
