Very Different: Night terrors are episodes of suddenly crying out during the deep stages of sleep. A person is not awake during these episodes, and usually has little recollection of them. They occur most often in childhood and often go away over time. Panic attacks are sudden episodes of intense fear and anxiety while a person is awake. They can occur in children and adoloscents, but are more common in adults.

Be assured that it is not night terror. 
Trust in healing powers of your body if you do not have Panic attack or hyperventilation in the day time; symptoms are less intense ; no other acute symptoms when you wake up.

Useful combination: Ask your doctor if there is no medical or presence any other psychiatric disorder contraindicating starting a serotonergic medication (Sertraline, Fluoxetine, Citalopram or other) in combination with Mirtazepine and Prazosin.
Mirtazepine will help you with sleep and Prazosin works well for nightmares.
It is important to get an accurate diagnosis of your condition, though.

for 14yrs, i've had panic attacks that present w/ chest pain, feelings of doom/terror & sometimes sweating. how would i recognize a true cardiac event?

Many signs: Weakness, pallor or cyanosis (being blue), poor pulse, poor capillary filling, fluctuations in blood pressure are more likely in mi.  Best to treat the panic effectively beforehand, so you won't be faced with that problem.  You'll panic over trying to decide if you're having panic. Breathing exercises, meditation, and medication are quite useful. Please see your doctor and counselor for help.

Hard to say: It could be anxiety from a nightmare or it could be sleep apnea. Do you snore? Do you have kind of a thick neck. A sleep study could probably determine the precise nature of your condition.

Prevent them.: It's much better to prevent, than to "cope" with panic.   Effective treatment exists. I suggest you sort this out further with a mental health expert.  It's tough to get through your day when you have a panic attack to dread that night.

Day panic attacks: Most patients that have panic attacks at night have them during the day. Most people describe that the panic attacks at night are very similar to daytime panic symptoms. If they are not, it could be that other sleep disorders like sleep apnea, which can cause breathlessness, heart racing could be the culprit. Would optimize treatment of panic attacks and maybe see a sleep specialist.

It's a common time.: People with true panic disorder often wake up in the middle of the night experiencing a full blown panic attack. It's so scary it drives people to the er thinking they are having a heart attack. If yout truly think it's a heart attack go to the er.Then if there are no signs of a heart problem go next to  your primary care physician. If findings are  negative a psych evaluation is in order.

i had a panic attack on tuesday night and again on saturday night.  i can't sleep or eat enough. is this normal?

Help for panic : Having repeated panic attack is not normal. I suggest you see a psychiatrist especially since you are also not eating and sleeping.
