Umbilical hernia: is very common in newborn babies.  It will appear like the belly button is full of air but it is actually  protrusion of the intestinal wall which is, itself, full of air.  These usually close spontaneously over years.  It the protrusion cannot be pushed back in or the baby has pain you need to go right in to the doctor.  Ask your baby's pediatrician to confirm

Bleeding: Apply direct pressure and have it checked. Sometimes it is related to separation of the cord. Sometimes it may mean your infant is prone to bleeding. It needs to be stopped and assessed. All the best.

Umbilical Care: Keep it dry. Roll down the diapers to it is not covered up. Some recommend rubbing alcohol on the belly button area four times a day for the next week which helps keep it dry.

See below: Highly unlikely. Some bleeding as the cord separates is normal. If there is mucous coming from the site, or the site is red and swollen, your child should be seen.

Alcohol until dry: The umbilical stump usually separates with minimal local care. At most I suggest rubbing alcohol cleansing until it has dried &amp; no blood or oozing remains. If it is dry &amp; has no discharge you can ignore it except for routine cleaning as you would the rest of baby.

16 days old infant,  his embilical cord stub fell off when he was 4 days old. 10 days after it fell, his belly button started bleeding. is this normal?

It happens: The blood vessels that went through the cord during pregnancy should pinch off and not drain after birth. Occasionally a remnant or some tissue remains that will ooze. Robust cleaning with isopropal alcohol will help it dry out the area so it stops. If this doesn't help have the doc evaluate.

i hah an operation for a hernia in my belly button almost two years ago. they used mesh. my question is can i still have more babies?

Yes: That is why they reinforced the abdominal wall with the mesh.

Not necessarily: The umbilical stump is made to fall off - after it does there is often very little needed to facilitate it completing its healing. You can use a small drop of liquid soap (not antibacterial) to aid in the remainder drying out - but if you do nothing it will likely be just fine! If it is not healed by the 2 week visit - your provider will take care of the rest.

Wait: It is a hernia and do not get it fixed until after your done having children. Having another pregnancy after fixing it may cause it to break down and reoccurr again.
