Not to  tattoo: i would advised againt tatto in general and espcially when you on Accutane due to it broad effect on healing, scarring ,infection risk etc

severely broke out after trying new skincare products. i've been on accutanes and had success but will this reverse accutanes effect? do i go on again

Accepted Answer

Not acne.: A contact dermatitis from a new product, is not acne Or if you have a mild flare of acne because of it, stopping it may well stop the flare.  Wait and see what happens. Go back to your old skin care routine.  If it does not get better in a week or so, see your doc.

how can doctors say your skin does not breakout everywhere during the first 2-3 months on accutane when i broke out everywhere ? i don't get it. :(

Dosage too high?: I have been prescribing Accutane for 30+ years and my patients never get worse before they get better. When it happens, it's usually because the prescribing doctor has started with too high a dosage. But what's done is done.  Stay the course, and your acne will subside. Patience is a virtue.

i've been on mononessa for about 2 1/2 weeks because i'm being put on accutane later this month. i've been spotting this whole time, is this normal?

Of course not: Discuss with DR. Sometimes need time to adjust to pill. Sometimes need change. Consider YAZ (drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol) or a generic equivalent because it is very good for acne.

does having front bangs which cover your forehead cause accutane to be less effective because build up of sweat? i broke out on forehead on last month

Accepted Answer

Yes: Keeping bangs short is part of basic hygiene changes to reduce severity of acne.  Accutane is usually started if all these efforts as well as friendlier medical options fail.  It's all a matter of what's most important to you, and if you're willing to endure worsened acne because you love your bangs, then that's ok.  But, just be aware losing the bangs would likely improve forehead acne.

what is the criteria needed to be put on accutane ? i have severe back acne, and mild facial acne with some red acne marks.

Failure: You ought to have been placed on failed topical and/or oral antibitics for a sufficient period of time. Topical approaches such as benzoyl peroxide foams combined with topical antibiotics can often be very effective. If you fail these, then Accutane is certainly a reasonable option.

Yes: Accutane was developed for patients like you who have severe acne and haven't responded to oral antibiotics. Acne on the back takes longer to improve with accutane, so be patient if you are placed on it. Almost all patients do well with this medication.

i'm a woman on accutane. had sex and condom broke but also taking bc pills. chances of pregnancy?? should i take plan b as a backup?

Very unlikely: If you have been taking birth control pills at least for a couple of month  as instructed then you should be safe from pregnancy.  Because of birth defects with Accutane it is mandatory that you take birth control. All the best.

i'm 3 weeks into accutane and ive broke out in 4 cystic pimples on forehead and also a couple of pustules on cheeks and cheek is this normal?

Can be normal: Within the first month of starting Accutane you can have flare up, which is why sometimes doctors will prescribe a lower dose than your "goal" dose for the first month to limit the initial "flare ups".  If you are concerned, review this with your dermatologist.  Best of luck, but remember, you have to give medications time to work.

Yes: When oral antibiotics fail for acne on the trunk, it's probably time to go on accutane. It is not pleasant and they will explain the risks for you, but most men think it is worth it. Good luck.
