Muscle spasm: Muscle spasms can  put  pressure on nerves that will cause pain that can last a wk or more. Other things could be spial dysfunction due to injury , strain or inadvertent action. See you doc.

i've had persistent head & neck pain for over a week now. i had an mra of the neck & an mri of the brain done a few days ago, both without contrast. both came back clean, which i'm thankful for, but still in pain. thoughts? suggestions?

: Can tension or stress play a role in your symptoms?  What were your physical findings when your head and neck were examined? Any tenderness or increase in pain with motions which would point toward a muscular cause. Since your symptoms are only a week old,I don't consider a diagnosis of fibromyalgia at this time. If symptoms persist, I would consult a neurologist or rheumatologist.

i've had a headache, lower neck, &shoulder pain for over a week, i get a low fever of 99 sometimes. i've woke up at night with numb fingers,i work out a lot,  nerve problem or strain? or emergency?

Any one: You clinical picture could be due to cervical muscle spasms with cervical ridiculous for the radiation to the finger.I don't think us an emergency but you should go to see a Doctor if no improving with the Tylenol (acetaminophen) .

See a doctor: You should get evaluated asap since you have such diffuse and severe symptoms.

Lots of options: First, one should seek out a pm;r pain specialist (or maybe anesthesiologist with pain training) to fully evaluate the neck.

An MRI may end up being needed, but not after usually trying more conservative treatments such as nsaids, prednisone, and maybe pt.  Surgery is not usually needed or appropriate for axial neck pain.  Interventional pain injections into the appropriate structure can help.

i've had severe neck, back, and throat pain for over a week and occasional headaches and vomit. dr said its only post nasal drip. what is going on?!

?: I don't know without examine you but i doubt all those symptoms are due to just postnasal drip. Ge another opinion please.

Not thyroid: The thyroid is located in the front lower portion of your neck and doesn't cause neck stiffness as a rule. More common causes would be arthritis, muscle inflammation or a pinched nerve. Try wearing a soft cervical collar as needed and use heat, liniment and take nsaids if you can. See your physician if symptoms persist.

Not likely: The pain seems to be involving different areas of your body, is it mostly left sided? The duration also, 1 week, is not consistent with angina or chest pain due to cardiac disease. A search for alternate causes for the pain is recommended. Please do talk to your doctor about your symptoms.

See a doc: See you doctor and determine a cause and or physical therapy/meds .Did you take ibuprofen and try warm compresses.

Likely yes: Most neck pain is oflimited duration and will self resolve.  I would suggest heat and over the counter nsaids like motrin.  Try a massage.
