A few: Alternate antibiotics could include Linezolid or combination treatment based on culture and sensitivity, or possibly even vancomycin again after desensitization treatment, depending on severity of the infection.

hi docs, can you tell me if surgical incisions to drain a staph infection and intravenous vancomycin are the most effective treatments?

MRSA?: Vancomycin will kill staph but it is regularly used for methicillin resistant staph. MRSA will not die with regular penicillin or Keflex so drainage and special antibiotics are used. Vanco should do just fine if not they may need to use zyvox (linezolid) a newer mrsa drug

Probably: These are not known to cross react.  Hopefully the clindamycin is the proper antibiotic for the infection that you apparently have.  You should ask this question of the physician who prescribed the clindamycin.

Yes: so far no known cross reactivity between vancomycin and sulpha compounds, always tell your doctors what are your medicine allergies, good luck

Dosing is different : Children metabolize some medications differently than adults.

Vancomycin:  "red nan syndrome" is rather a side effect not a true allergy, can be avoided by slower infusion rate of the drug, if you you are allergic to neosporin or bacitracin applied topically, better avoid using them, as for the rash, I am not sure what kind and what is the possible cause, need to be seen, if you can't see a doctor at the moment,try hydrocortisone cream 1% OTC for now, till u c ur doctor

IV vancomycin: It is given slowly to give less discomfort, to give less injury to the vessel wall and thus prevent the antibiotic from going into the tissues and causing damage.

diagnosed w/ c-diff 10 12/19/22.. given 10 days of vancomycin. added florastor probiotic. how do i know when i am better & can start adding back more foods to my diet? do i keep taking florastor daily or take a different probiotic for my gut health?

: If you are no longer having diarrhea, you can resume your usual diet. Probiotics are generally not useful.

i was given several antibiotics through iv over 2 days. some i know that were included were: clindamycin, vancomycin, po keflex, doxycycline and a coagulant. can these create false positive for amphetamine use?

: No. None of the antibiotics/meds listed would show up as amphetamines.
