Yes: There is a risk of liver damage, this risk is increased with preexisting liver problems or very high doses of the med. Usually your doctor will make that assessment and monitor your liver enzymes before and while you are on it. Properly monitored the risk is low.

: Elevated liver enzymes are a common side effect of naltrexone. If your baseline liver function is normal, checking liver enzymes in 3 months after using and if there is no change, you should be fine. If you have underlying liver disease such as chronic viral hepatitis or alcoholic hepatitis, I would check liver enzymes in 2-4 weeks after starting this med.

Pretty much exactly: like it is spelled. NALL -  TREKS -  ZONE, with the accent on the second syllable.  It's cousin naloxone is pronounced similarly - NALL - OX - ZONE.  In the UK they pronounce many of these differently, and accent the first syllable more, and some will pronounce the last syllable more like - ZIN than ZONE.  But they talk funny.

Modify Treatment: Consult with your pain specialist in this situation.  Never self adjust medication use without expert guidance.  If you "failed" treatment your physician may consider adjusting your dose or switching you to another medication.  Again, never self adjust any medications, especially in this class of drug as it can result in serious consequences.  Addiction and pain management specialists are best.

The person could die: 'overdosing' on any substance (or alcohol) can potentially kill a person. This includes heroin. Naltrexone, prescribed for opiate and alcohol dependence, blocks the effects of opiates (like heroin); though it will not offset overdose lethality. Use of heroin is associated with a variety of severe emotional and general medical difficulties.

: Naltrexone is a very serious medication with a high level of negative side effects and can be addictive. It should be a last resort when treating Autism. Autism has shown significant improvement to dietary changes, behavioral therapy and occupational therapy. It is available for any child through the regional center and their local public school.

Accepted Answer

Possibly: One drug company is trying to get approval for a medication that combines Naltrexone with bupropion for the treatment of obesity. Thier is evidence that high sugar/fatty foods cause a release of endorphins. I personally have tried it on a few of my obese patients and they do not seem to find it as helpful or tolerate it as well as my alcohol dependent patients. It is not indicated at this time.
