ok so my  12 year old daughter is always tired and mopey. how much sleep should she get?  or is this just puberty. (has breast buds and discharge )

Need to be checked: 12 years old always tired needs to be evaluated by her pediatrician.She needs at least 7 hours of good sleep.But she needs a physical exam and may need blood test to rule out anemia and other causes of tiredness ib 12 years old.Puberty is a normal ohysiological process and  it does not and should not caue tiredness all the time.

Dr. can evaluate her: There are good treatments for depression. A primary care doctor can evaluate to be sure one does not have a physical illness related to depression. School, work, and family troubles can lead to depression, but the reverse can also happen. Prescription medications are beneficial, and help one improve enough to really benefit from counseling. Can call the local Emergency Services number if needed.

Change sleep pattern: Your daughter  needs to change her time of sleep .She may not be actually sleeping  enough and feels tired .She may start going to sleep by 8-9 p.m.and get up at 6-7 a.m.so she gets9-10 hours sleep ,then  she will feel fresh . Make it sure T.V.is off in her room and may have to cut down telephone talk late at night.She may have little nap if she wants.

Lunch?: It all depends on how much she weighs and how much of her lunch calories are sugars or carbohydrates.

All sorts of things: With the non-specific symptoms you describe, she needs to have a complete physical exam & lab work for anemia + whatever else her doctor deems necessary. If there is no medical cause found, her doctor may refer her to a mental health provider for assessment for depression or other issues. Have her start a " headache journal" to help her doctor see the pattern of occurrence.

Very difficult: The possibilities are very numerous.  She needs to go to her doctor and give them her full history.  There really is no way of knowing at this point.

Teens shaky thighs: If this occurs following exercise it may be quite common. However, if it happens without any precipitating events, i would discuss with your child's pediatrician.

Yes: Migraines are because of unbalanced and exaggerated activity of the autonomic (automatic) nervous system. This and the fatigue are because of defective energy metabolism that is felt most severely ijn the lower brain. Get rid of sugar in all its forms and all the carbohydrate "junk". Also add a good, well rounded multivitamin. I have seen many patients like this and this is the usual answer.

: Growing pains won't lead to any serious health conditions and they usually resolve by late childhood. However, frequent episodes may have a major impact on your child and your family's daily routine. Growing pains may cause daytime tiredness (fatigue), reduced physical activity and missed school.
