Periodontal Disease: Bleeding gums and retraction of the gums away from the teeth are signs of periodontal disease.  Apart from brusing with a soft brush, gently flossing and using saline rinses or mouthwash and perhaps some vitamin c, you need to see your dentist or a periodontal specialist and get seen.  You may need a prescription mouth wash, antibiotics, special cleaning and perhaps gingival surgery.  Don't delay!

See dentist: This could be anything from a viral illness (if it happened all of a sudden) to a chronic infection, periodonitis.  While good oral care with brushing and flossing can prevent periodonitis, once it occurs, you need to get it professionally cleaned as well as possible antibiotics.  The longer you wait, the more chance of permanent damage (aka lost teeth or worse infection).

Inflammation: Inflammation of the gum tissue results in bleeding. Not sure what might be causing your gums to be inflamed. Please see a local dentist for a more definitive diagnosis.

hi dr.. i have a dental issue which dates years back from an early age, bleeding gums, yes. i turn to bleed each morning and lately part of my gums start to hurt. been switching tooth pastes for years and havent found any that helps.

please advise?

Talk to your dentist: This would be a question for your dentist. He/she knows your teeth and gums from regular checkups and can advise on specific types of toothpaste. They can also advise on the cause of the bleeding/ gum pain. If you are taking blood thinners, talk to your prescribing doctor about the gum bleeding.

good morning dentists. could blood in saliva/phlegm be related to or from bleeding gums? is there any connection to dry mouth? other than brushing and waterpic, would you be able to offer suggestions as to cause of blood in saliva at night treatment?

Blood is a Warning: While there may be a number of causes for the blood I immediately suspect Gum disease. If you are not removing dental plaque from between your teeth with flossing, and brushing the exposed surfaces of the teeth and gums you are prone to getting inflamed gums.  They bleed easily.  Brush, Floss and rinse, and see your dentist immediately.

See below: Speak to your dentist in reference to your concerns. Did the dentist recommend more frequent hygiene visits or scaling and root planing? Follow through with all recommendations and stringent home care.

Possibly: If you have inflamed gingiva or pocketing or an open contact trapping food in that area (which you appear to have from your symptoms), the pain may be traveling to your sinus. An inflamed sinus will not, however, cause your gums to bleed. Please see a dentist for care.

All of the above: While periodontal or gum disease is the main cause of gum recession, aggressive tooth brushing can contribute.  As I understand it, gingivitis is a milder form of gum disease, but the more severe periodontitis is a serious gum infection damaging the soft tissue &amp; destroying the bone that supports your teeth. Receding gums are symptoms of both. Follow your dentist's guidelines for prevention.

Trauma?: The mucosa or tissue overlying the hard palate does not usually slough or peel off unless there is some history of trauma, or some underlying pathology.  Without more information regarding any possible causative factors and/or a clinical examination, you should see your dentist for evaluation.

See below. : You be amazed of how much whiter, less stained and pinker (healthier ) gums you will get just buy brushing and flossing a few times a day. By brushing properly using a soft toothbrush you can get great result. You can also use some over the counter whitening toothpaste. This is more of a maintenance plan and you should have a professional cleaning and whitening done by a dentist.
