Debatable.: Unless you are infected with corona virus, and have active disease, this can happen. But, otherwise you should not be afraid or scared. Do not share your toothbrush with anybody. Before brushing also, rinse it out thoroughly in a running hot water, and after brushing also thoroghly rinse it with hot water. Store it in a clean place.

Sensitivity: Sounds like you had Tarter removed, accumulations of plaque (bacteria) that become calcified.  To do so requires a professional cleaning, which is a surgical procedure.  The greater the damage from plaque/tarter, the more extensive the surgical procedure.  Failure to keep area clean may result in even more tissue damage.  Take pain killer 1/2 hour before you brush.  Call your Dentist for help.

Floss more: Brushing is important but flossing rules.  If you brush well ...2-3 minutes gentle and thorough you can do it once every two days but you need to floss every day.   More brushing and flossing if you are susceptible to decay or have a systemic disease like diabetes or are older or not getting proper nutrition.  Like so many things, life and genetics are not fair look at the tissue color if it's red.

Probalbly not: Brushing your teeth too hard especially not using a soft toothbrush could cause your gums to recede. A study in 2010 found that poor oral hygiene is associated with an increased risk of other heart problems such as heart attack or stroke. “these findings contribute to the understanding of the relationship of gum disease with heart disease. Definitely brush your teeth but do not be too aggressive.
