my blood pressure was 157/73 should i take a blood pressure pill now or wait later. i know the top is high but i'm worried about the bottom getting to?

High blood pressure: Depending upon age, we typically won't treat high blood pressure unless it exceeds 140/90 in those younger than 60yo while we wait until greater than 150/90 for those older than 60yo. Years of high blood pressure increases risk for stroke, heart failure, kidney failure etc. However, one can also pass out immediately from low blood pressure. Discuss options w/your family doc.

Likely normal: To have hypertension it should be measured on different days at different times.  If you repeatably measure it it will likely go up. The numbers are not alarming but should discuss with your doctor if your are concerned.

is vision connected to blood pressure -- i.e. if i lower my blood pressure, might my vision improve ?

Not usually, unless: Your vision is only affected by extremely high blood pressure, when the effects of high BP affect the retinal vasculature ;/or optic nerve (malignant hypertension). Furthermore retinal blood vessels can be blocked causing loss of vision. Too low of BP usually causes people to feel faint ; pass out. Too low of BP has been thought to contribute to worsening of optic nerve blood flow. Goal bp: 115/70.

i am 66. on monday my blood pressure was 132/94 . on friday it was 111/72. is there an issue of concern here.

Not urgent: I will give you a general answer about blood pressure. Getting blood pressure and control helps prevent heart attacks, strokes and kidney problems. When you measure your blood pressure, make sure you are relaxed for more than 30 minutes and check it 3 times and you can use the lowest number. Remember to check with your pcp if you still have concerns

No problems here: 1. You don't have enough data to make any determination from your blood pressure and the postural changes. Your readings are well within the margins of error for any blood pressure measurement devices on the market. 

2. Your youthful body has compensation mechanisms to immediately adjust and maintain blood pressure over almost any postural changes. Don't expect to see changes with those maneuvers.

Dehydration: Dehydration is more likely to result in low blood pressure. 
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low fat milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex. 
Get HPV vaccine.

i am 68 years i am puzzled by my blood pressure readings. my dystolic is very regular & low, 80% of the time between 67 and 72; but my systolic is all over the place, averaging at 132 but sometimes up to 160 sometimes down to 110. why?

: Blood pressure will change moment to moment depending on your activity levels, hydration state, level of stress, time of day, state of arousal, and general health. The method used and the measuring device is critical for an accurate reading. A doppler electronic device attached to a large wide cuff on your upper arm is ideal. For medical purposes the lowest pressure of the day is all that matters.
