Common transition: Between 6-9 mo most infants begin to realize they depend on their primary source people &amp; can develop a separation anxiety.If they wake &amp; don't see you immediately they can become fully awake and fuss.It takes into the 2nd year before this passes.You might just look at a clock &amp; wait 5m before checking. Swaddling: When the baby can independently undo and release the swaddling. At this point, the blanket they are wrapped in becomes a hazard. I hope this helps.

Baby problem & Mom 2: This is a very troublesome problem that many parents face.  It is very important to talk with the babies doctor asap and get checked so as you can tell him how many problems the baby is having.  The problems often have good treatments which can help quickly.  You must get some rest so you can take care of your self and your baby.  If you are getting depressed you should immediately get help.

Lessen his naps: during daytime to only 1 nap for 30-45 minutes in afternoon.  Check to see if he has nightmares, or if he acts like it.  No milk/juice at night.  Check his blood sugar to make sure he is not waking up because he has to urinate too often (symptom of diabetes).  Lastly check his diet if he is drinking caffeinated soft drinks. Absolutely!: By this age, babies should sleep at least 6 hours straight, so it's time to work on this. If he has plenty of breast milk or formula (and baby food) during the day, give him as much as he wants of solids and milk right before bed, then put him in his crib in his room sleepy but not asleep. If he cries, every 10-15 min. Go in and gently pat his back a few times and leave; if he wakes, do the same.

Secretions: When infants lay on their backs to sleep (as they should to avoid SIDS), fluids from the stomach, mouth or nose can pool in the back of the throat.  Transient coughing and/or nasal congestion after sleeping is often a sign of this, and more common in those with acid reflux.  Since this can make them more prone to ear infections, elevating the head of the bed can help prevent it.

Going through phase: If his energy during the day is good and his growth and development is normal then don't worry.  Just try to stick with a regular nap/play schedule and it should resolve.  As for your insomnia, you do have my sympathies!

Sure but.....: If the baby is generally happy and not fussy during awake times, the waking up might have a specific cause. Gas, acid reflux, a cramp are examples. If the baby is always fussy, these may be a more chronic problem. Either way, call your pediatrician.
