Referred pain?: Pain from a groin muscle strain or hernia can be referred to the testicle. Check for a bulge. If none is present rest the area with no heavy lifting or exercise for two weeks. If the pain persists or a bulge develops see a doctor.

i am an avid weightlifter for 28-years. i was just diagnosed with a left side intercostal muscle strain. the pain is tremendous. it is day 7 of this pain. any advice on medicine and/or physical therapy that i can do at home to help heal the injury?

Answeredyesterday: You must be examined. You will need a chest x-ray and physicial exam. You will need antiinflammatory/pain mediciation and figure on 2-4 weeks for  this to begin: sound like a torn intercostal muscle with nerve exposure causing severe intercostal neuritis and cosochonditis.

i had pain in my chin and concerned if that indicates a broken jaw or just muscle pain/strain.  pain was so bad i couldn't sleep. didn't have any major trauma, but received one jab, 2 days ago.

Not much to do.: Usually these types of strains are self limiting but can last for three to six weeks, depending on severity. Intermittent cold applications to the area often times eases the pain. Rest and discontinuing of strenuous activity will certainly help. Medications like ibuprofen or muscle relaxants can also help. A trip to your physical therapist may be beneficial in speeding things up.

Yes: Muscle strain takes a lot of time to heal. The nature of pain also changes during recovery dependig on how much one uses the muscles that  were hurt. Do not read too much in the changing nature of the pain though. Generally musccle strain get resolved after proper rest and excercise.Hope that was helpful to you.

Topical analgesics: Most common one is bengay cream or any other one has salicylate or other anti inflammatory medicine like diclofonate. Keep neck warm at all times.

Muscle strain: Yes, especially if the muscle crosses the knee joint--quads, hams, etc.
