Leg cold, cramping: Your one leg getting cold sounds like a circulatory problem.  It is odd that is only happens after midnight.  Muscle cramping is often caused by a deficiency in magnesium, potassium, or vitamin D.  Dehydration increases your risk for muscle cramps, too.  At age 71, I think you should see a doctor to evaluate the cold leg.

Calf cramps: You seem to be very concerned about having a compartment syndrome in your lower legs. As a sports medicine MD, I personally suffer from Achilles tendinitis and myositis of the calf muscles and assure you most calf cramps are the benign result of overuse. Exercise induced chronic compartment syndrome is a rare but serious cause of calf pain. Please see an MD ASAP to check for compartment pressures!

Try the calf stretch: If one stretches the calf muscles, one by one, by putting first the toe of one foot up against the wall and leaning into the wall, stretching that calf muscle; then switch sides and put the other toe up against the wall, then lean toward the wall, stretching the other calf.  Doing multiple stretches of each calf, morning an night, might prevent further cramps.

Electrolytes: Electrolyte abnormalities   ( esp. Potassium, or magnesium)  can produce abnormalities with skeletal muscle contractions (cramps), and abnormal heart beats. You should see your doctor.

Possibility: If the symptoms are temporally related it is possible that your symptoms are related to scar tissue caused by your surgery but this is only one possibility.  It would be uncommon for you to have scarring on bowels after a routine c-section.

Muscle Cramps: From your pattern, this is muscle cramps.  As long as the pain comes and goes, and lasts only 2-3 seconds, and more importantly is fading, then it is most likely related to the extensive exercise.  If the pain becomes more constant, or severe, or is accompanied by pale color changes then you should be seen by your family physician.  Pale color with severe unremitting pain is an emergency
