Try not to scratch: Lesions to reduce chances of infection and scarring. Wash hands well- as you don't want to spread the chickepox to others.

my son (3) is on day 4 of chicken pox. he wasn't vaccinated. he's got a cough today and he's had much more breakouts. i'm worried about internal infection. or that he's contracted something else. what can we do?

Medical evaluation: Varicella pneumonia and secondary bacterial infection of the varicella lesions are two common complications of varicella. This is why we vaccinate - not to avoid varicella, but the complications that can arise. At this point, with having developed a cough, he needs medical evaluation to make sure no pneumonia has developed. At that visit,  can also assess if any infection of lesions.

what could make a positive hiv result look negative? i was dehydrated and had the chicken pox could this have made a difference?

Unlikely: Neither dehydration nor another viral infection such as chicken pox should interfere with testing for hiv.  What kind of test was done? I'm assuming you had a definite positive previously and are now negative--what treatment have you been getting?  Some treatments work so well for some people that viral load is vastly reduced, which might be called 'negative' under some circumstances.

Not sure: Of course can't give you a definitive diagnosis but there is a condition called molluscum contagiosum that is quite common in children in those locations.  I would recommend checking some pics on www.Aad.Org and see if it looks similar.

is it possible to test positive on igg herpes hsv 2 test and not have it?(is it possible chicken pox virus/shingles could also cause positive result?)

False positive: IgG tests are possible.  There can be some cross-reactivity with other viral antibodies.  The definitive diagnosis of specific viruses including HSV 1, 2 and HIV is a western blot test. This also tests for antibody protein but to the specific virus. I believe getting an HSV2 western blot should be your next step. Good wishes:)

my 3 year old has 24 spots that look like chicken pox on his stomach, blood test came back with negative results. what could it be? no fever just itch

Anything: Could be bug bug bites, papular urticaria, a viral rash, eczema, dry skin. Rashes are not easily diagnosed without seeing them. If it is not chicken pox and is not going away then see a dermatologist.

Outcome variability: At it's peak, chickenpox was most common in preschool kids, with &gt; 2 million cases/yr , 50 deaths & 10, 000 hospitalizations. With the adoption of the vaccine the kid problem has become less an issue & sporadic adult cases have gotten more attention. Adults are at higher risk of a fatal pneumonia for reasons that are unexplained.We see a similar increased morbidity with mumps in adulthood.
