Not first choice : Colonoscopy is the first choice , as it is true visualization of colon, if any polyp present, biopsy could be done , even a very small lesions , other mucosal pathology could be seen. Relatively safe . V c is non invasive screening procedure, if abnormal still need colonoscopy.

Not necessarily: Some colon cancers are very slow growing and may not have significant worsening of symptoms over 8 months. However, the symptoms of colon cancer are usually quite different than ibs symptoms. But having ibs does not mean you might not also have colon cancer. The best way to be sure you don't have that is to get a colonoscopy. In the us screening colonoscopies are advised for all people at age 50.

: Flatulogenic foods and your overall diet are most likely the cause of gas and thin stools. The risk of colon cancer increases as people age, but can occasionally occur in young adults and teenagers. The vast majority of cases occur in people older than 50.

last question about stool, what percent of colon cancer patients have blood in stool? my first fit test i bought is negative.(doctor can't order one i'm under 45). if i do another this year and it's negative is that a good sign no cancer or polyps?

: A negative FIT rules out bleeding in the colon. It makes colon cancer less likely but does not rule it out. It rules out polyps even less.
Unless there is a family history of early onset colon cancer, you can wait to get screening colonoscopy at age 40-45. If there family history of colon cancer, get colonoscopy 10 years sooner than the youngest at which a relative had cancer.

i turned 45 last december.  i see commercials for colon cancer screening through the mail.  is this something i should be considering?  when do you recommend i get screened for colon cancer? are the mail-in kits a good option?

Screening: A screening colonoscopy is recommended when you turn 50, however if there is a history of colon cancer in your parents or siblings, screening is recommended at age 40. The other tests look for hidden blood in stool or looks for DNA changes. These tests won't detect precancerous polyps and have to be done yearly. If positive, you then go for colonoscopy.

i got a colonoscopy done and the report says "adenomatous polyp, polyp removed, with high grade dysplasia". polyp was 26mm. no history of colon cancer. what does this mean? what kind of questions/tests should i ask when i meet my gastroenterologist?

Polyp: Most importantly ask when the next screening colonoscopy should be done as your colon polyp, size and microscopically,  indicates that this was a great pickup. Also there is risk for more polyp formation in the future. Ask your gastroenterologist if there's any dietary advice or advisability of taking low dose aspirin as preventative measures for polyp formation or development of colon cancer

hi i had no bm for 5 days. i took citrate of magnesia had watery diarrhea-like stools 3 trips. my question is if the lack of bm comes back in a few days, could it mean something much ?more serious? bowel obstruction? colon cancer? something else??

No one here will tell you you do or don't have cancer. Go get evaluated by a doc for your chronic bowel problems.
