Not long: Good job - quitting, of course! you may be experiencing withdrawal symptoms, which tend to vary a lot from person to person. Typically they last 4 weeks, can last more, but go away. Depending on how much you smoked, your 'cilia' cells in the throat or nasal passages may be waking up and working again! use sugar-free candy (causes more saliva) or gum. Stay smoke free!

Smoking: If breathing ok, &amp; your exam &amp; chest X-ray are normal, this should stop soon with continued abstinence &amp; supportive treatment for cough.

Yes: It all depends on how long you smoked and if you already have chronic bronchitis ( which is a form of copd) . To evaluate that you may need full pulmonary function test. Remember when you quit smoking, inflammation that the smoking triggered does not quit right away

Quit smoking . . .: Congratulations on breaking the habit &amp; quitting smoking! In general, tobacco smoke tends to deaden cilia, little hairs that sweep debris out of breathing tubes. After you quit smoking, cilia come back to life &amp; start removing junk that's been building up all the time you were smoking. That's why many ex-smokers report worse cough after quitting! But stick with it so that cilia can clean up lungs!

: Symptoms as described are certainly consistent with acquired COVID-19 and/or bacterial/viral  infection,  so get tested soon.   Perimenopause can also cause fatigue, but not the other symptoms.  Nicotine withdrawal can cause irritability, cravings , but the most likely cause remains COVID.

Try in office bleach: See your MD for a definitive diagnosis. See your dentist to try to brighten your smile after smoking, perhaps it would be a great idea to bleach your teeth to try to rid your teeth of all internal staining due to smoking.

Recovery: The appearance of mucus with brown particles is a sign that the airways are recovering from the chronic exposure to smoke. The cilia lining the airways work to sweep away the accumulated smoke.  This should resolve in a few days.  Do not make the mistake of restarting the cigarettes.  Congratulations on making the healthy change.

Smoking: First congratulations on quitting smoking. Keep it up.  After you quit your lungs are going to start getting rid of stuff in your chest.  It is normal to have some productive phlegm.
