See doc again: If you have a hard time breathing, you need to get checked again and hopefully get a lung function test or even a chest xray. On the other hand, trouble breathing in is more suggestive of obstruction at the upper airway and not the lung.  Once we have the lung function and/or chest x-ray finding, we will have a better chance in pinning down the cause. Zpak may not work for sinusitis

No: Both mucinex sinus max and zyrtec d contain pseudoephedrine.  Avoid taking the two together.

Mgt: If there is a fever for more than 2-3 days, please see your PCP for evaluation of sinusitis. Otherwise, I would advise nasal saline rinses.

Probably not: I couldn't find the exact ingredients in mucinex (guaifenesin) sinus max but presume it does contain pseudoephedrine as well.  When you take Allegra D, you are getting this ingredient as well and may end up with elevated BP, faster heart rate, and /or insomnia.  If it does not contain a decongestant, it would be ok.

Depends on what...: It depends on what one is not allowed to take. Mucinex (guaifenesin) d has "sudafed" or Pseudoephedrine in it, so if one is not allowed to take sudafed, then there may be a problem.

SINUS WOES: Unfortunately no... Mucinex-D also contains Sudafed, which is generally taken every 12-hours.

Yes: A good idea for self-medicating cold/sinus symptoms is to list your symptoms and present the list to the pharmacist who can guide you through the litany of options. If self-medication fails to improve symptoms or they worsen, best to consult a physician. That said, if you are otherwise healthy (and have no serious heart or blood pressure related condition) can now take the claritin-D.

can you take a decongestant when taking prednisone 20mg ( 2perday for 5days)  like mucinex: d  ? i was prescribed prednisone for sinus infection

Preferably not: Mucinex (guaifenesin) d contains Guaifenesin Pseudoephedrine 120mg which can raise blood pressure, make you jittery, "hyper" and cause heartburn and constipation. Prednisone 40 mg may worsen the side effects, like high blood pressure, thyroid problem or diabetes. You should rinse y our nose with saline and use a nasal decongestant like oxymetazoline (afrin) for 5 days. Guaifenesin may help (mucinex (guaifenesin) without d).
