Yes, Staph, no MRSA: Young children, especially, who have close contact with others in daycare and ealy school, often bring home staph, (impetigo, respiratory, ear infections), but since most communities do not have alot of mrsa, it is the more common staph that they get and bring home.

Clean, not sterilize: Mrsa is spread from person to person; bedspreads and surfaces in you home can harbor bacteria for  a long time. You can not "sterilize" your home the way hospitals sterilize medical equipment. Cleaning compounds will clean surfaces, and soap and water are effective for personal hygiene.Your doctor may prescribe medications to decrease  MRSA bacteria if you become infected. Pets can  carry mrsa.

No DifferentBacteria: Staphylococcus aureus frequently present  human skin & respiratory passages, especially nose. Control of this bacteria, as with all, is a function of the immune system. Sa is most commonly a commensal bacteria, but that reality is not good for marketing fear. Dietary choices, activities, emotions & any internal control affecting immune function can change. Mrsa merely means multiple resistant abs.

Not safe.: It is possible to contract MRSA infection even with intact skin.  Many, many parts of the body (lungs, sinuses, urine, etc.) could be infected with this very common bacterium.

i have recurring mrsa that just won't stop. contracted it 5 yrs ago had outbreaks ever since. why won't it go away? please help.

Invaded: Ok, actually 'colonized' is the term. Means it now lives on your skin and/or in your nostrils, so if appropriate opening appears, can cause infection. Talk to your dr about eradication attempt--showering with special soap (often hibiclens) while using nasal topical antibiotic--to see if can eliminate it. Only risk is that it can get picked up again later on, but worth a shot.

The best approach: is to take a culture of the drainage from
an infected site to see if it is indeed MRSA.. if it is a skin infection with bumps but no drainage a trial of antibiotics active against MRSA and a response to it would be suggestive that you have MRSA , but there's no substitue from getting a culture.

MRSA : Infection with MRSA bacteria mainly occurs in people who are already ill in hospital. It can be difficult to treat, as MRSA bacteria are resistant to most types of antibiotic medicines. Many people are carriers of MRSA without even realising it, as MRSA often does not cause symptoms in healthy people.
Infection can be diagnose by taking swabs from wound , blood or urine test .

i visited my friend in the hosp. he was put in isolation due to a previous mrsa infec 3yrs ago.i didn't know so i didn't suit up. should i be worriee. i have young kids.?

No: Precautions are designed to prevent colonization, not overt inoculation.

Yes: Mrsa can live dormant on your skin or elsewhere. Nostrils are a place where people can be colonized by MRSA or other bacteria.

More information: To be able to answer your question, more information is needed.  Where is the MRSA? What is the MRSA causing? Some people may have MRSA on their body (that is they screen positive for MRSA), if it is not causing any problem, no treatment is needed.
