The best approach: is to take a culture of the drainage from an infected site to see if it is indeed MRSA.. if it is a skin infection with bumps but no drainage a trial of antibiotics active against MRSA and a response to it would be suggestive that you have MRSA , but there's no substitue from getting a culture.
