May irritate: you can try rinsing with the Colgate mouthwash and see if it irritates your ulcer. I'd advise using Rincinol by Butler Gum to help sooth the ulcer which should normally take a little over a week to resolve. If that doesn't help your Dentist can prescribe a special mouthwash to alleviate the discomfort. If it is still persistent have your dentist examine it. Hope you feel better.

No: There is nothing to kill. The ulcerations will take there course and heal in approximately 10 to 14 days.

No - Use Peridex (chlorhexidine gluconate): Instead of the irritation of mouthwash; get a rx for Peridex (chlorhexidine gluconate) from your dentist.  This is a liquid that you can have soak (now swish) in you mouth to disable bacteria and assist in the healing of irritated and sore tissue.  The nih results was that this solution will soak into the tissue and time release over the next 12 hours.

It's possible: Blisters, erosions and sores in the mouth can be caused by many different things.  Some are contagious (herpes simplex virus) and many are not (canker sores, lichen planus, pemphigus vulgaris).  Mouthwashes can be very harsh on the sensitive mucosa in the mouth and can lead to ulcers/erosions. Have this checked out to find the exact cause as this is important for long term treatment decisions.

Ulcers on tongue: Recurring apthous ulcers have no definitive cause. Possible causes are stress, injury/trauma, diet (acidic foods),smoking, acid reflux or other GI diseases, allergies, viral infections, vitamin deficiencies, hormone imbalance.
Check with your dentist or medical doctor for an examination and diagnosis of posssible causes.

: Apthous ulcers of the mouth are not caused by a virus. The cause is elusive. You may get some relief by rinsing your mouth with maalox. A prescriotion corticosteroid gel, suitable for mouth use,is probably the most effective treatment.

Need More Info: Ulcerated areas in the oral cavity can be related to a number of different causes.  With your history of having them once or twice a week, a more thorough examination and more information would be recommended.

Mouth ulcers- 6 wks?: Please do two things. First speak to the physician who prescribed those medications regarding your symptoms and two- see an Oral Surgeon for a definitive diagnosis of type and cause of ulcers and suggestions.
