: Mostly. Rinsing your mouth with mouth wash or water will remove most of the fluoride, but that does not diminish the effectiveness of fluoride toothpaste in preventing cavities.

Yes it can: Hudrogen Peroxide works as a bleaching agent because it penetrates the enamel more deeply.It can cause teeth sensitivity.But it subsides when it is discontinued

used a mouthwash rinse for the first time. it really dried my mouth out and after about 3 weeks the dr. said i had thrush. is that normal?

Not normal: Mouthwash shouldn't cause thrush--it should help prevent it. Find a better mouthwash! i recommend listerine or crest prohealth (or the generic equivalents). The real question is why did you get thrush, since it is unlikely the mouthwash caused the thrush. So what is the underlying health issue that allowed a fungal infection to occur? What did the dr. Say?

my breath smells like poop. my dentist & hygienist says my mouth/teeth/gums are in perfect shape. i brush/floss/tongue scrape/mouthwash rinse 4 times a day. i have not been drinking a lot of water which has me constipated, can that be the cause?

: Bad breath can be caused by many different factors, including sinus infections, periodontal problems, smoking, cavities, acid reflux, and your diet. Since your mouth is in perfect shape it's something else. Address all of these possibilities with your physician, and I'm confident that your problem will at least be minimized, and hopefully eradicated.

i want 2 know what happens win u accidentally gulp down some mouthwash win rinse in the mouth after spit it out. is it harmful  2 the body? please help

Relax: It's fine.  If you just swallowed a little no problem.  Not harmful.

i've noticed a lot of otc mouthwashes/fluoride rinses contain citric and/or phosphoric acid. wouldn't those harm tooth enamel or is the amt too small?

Accepted Answer

Accentuates results: OTC mouthwashes do, in fact, contain some acids and their ph level tends to be acidic because of that.  The effect on teeth, damage to the teeth is minimal, but the effect on the surface of a tooth allows fluoride to integrate with the enamel of the tooth and strengthens it.  So an acid environment does not necessarily cause problems if it is needed.

today i had deep cleaning done at dental office in us. lot of bleeding gums. after cleaning i asked hygienist to give me more mouthwash to rinse. she used paper tissue to hold my cup no gloves to pour more mouthwash in cup.  any risk for hiv/hep?

Bleeding gums: Indicates Periodontal (gum) disease. Ask to see a specialist Periodontist. Hygienist should have been gloved and gowned. Risk of infection to you infantessimably small. Risk of you infecting the person not wearing barriers is marginally higher.

Maybe: Rinsing with water would reduce the affect of the mouthrinse faster than normal.

Mouth rinses: There are different mouthwashes for different purposes. Some need prescriptions while most don't. I am not sure what you are using or why (or if you even have to use it in the first place). Whatever the reason, i can't see why you would want to limit the effectiveness (if it is effective even) by rinsing out. Your own dentist can best answer your question and discuss this issue with you.

Deposits: Some mouthwashes contain certain chemicals that can cause a green staining.  I would suggest switching brands of mouthwash to see if this solves the problem. Certain mouthwashes just react differently to each patient's saliva.
