Cry for help: Overdosing often does not work because the person does not really want to die. They are so unhappy they think overdosing is an answer and it is not. They often alert friends or family...Leave clues so they will be discovered. It is a cry for help and thank goodness it works most of the time.

Yes and No: The groups themselves can be helpful, but only so much as the person participates in the group.  They will not work passively.  The been there done that factor is helpful to many people.  They don't feel so alone.

Have a friend or relative drive you.  If need be, you can call 911 for emergency services ; they can provide transport. When a person is depressed they often feel despair ; come to believe that things can't get better.
