Cyst: This may be a simple cyst and if there is no redness or tenderness, it isn't infected. A physician, dermatologist or ophthalmologist could dIagnose it and advise you how it could be or should be handled.

Accepted Answer

Infection.: Most likely you have a minor skin infection.  It could be a mosquito bite that has become secondarily infected, or a simple skin infection.  
Keep the area clean and apply topical antibiotic ointment twice daily.  It should resolve within a few days.  If it does not go away, or it gets worse, you may need to have it lanced.

Mollusca?: Your description is consistent with mollusca contagiosum, a common viral wart like skin infection in children.  They are benign and usually require no treatment.  They can persist for months. Please see your pediatrician for confirmation or alternative diagnosis.

i woke up this morning with a small bump on the back of my head, right side. the bump is about the size of a mosquito bite. (half a dime) very painful to the touch. hurts when i lay my head down. what could this be?

Inflammation &amp;/or an: Infection. You need an in-person exam by a provider that can lay eyes on it. If it's a hair follicle infection, it's called a furuncle, which, without treatment, can progress to cellulitis &amp;/or abscess. If &gt;1 follicle gets involved, then it's a carbuncle. Talk to your doc about need for drainage, aspiration, culture, empiric antibiotic treatment. If lymphadenitis, use ultrasound &amp; needle biopsy.

Usually not: Usually not; this is more commonly see with fire ant bites. However, if local bacterial infection results from the mosquito bite, then yes, a whitehead can form. As long as it's confined to a small area, does not seem to go deep, and there is no fever, it is reasonable to do warm water soaks, soap and water washes, and maybe a little antibiotic ointment. And worse i'd see the doc.

ForgiveMe4BeingNosey: Don't mess with it, waddaya think? Don't mess with it for another month or two. Resist scratching it, or fooling with it or touching it, or scraping it with a comb. If after waiting, it's still there, then have a doctor look at it to assess for size, color(s), borders, etc. Of course, you said the bump is on your head. The head includes ears and face. So if this bump is on the end of your nose....

Mosquito bites. : It is not unusual to see a small white head/blister at the site of an insect bite. It should subside. If it enlarges and/or turns red, it is infected, and needs monitoring.

Could  be: Please see your dermatologist for evaluation and to discuss treatment options. You could have fungus on your scalp. Tinea corporis is term for fungus on body.
