hey, i never really smoked before but yesterday i had a few and now i have some white spots on my throat. strep throat? mononucleosis? infection?

Likely an infection: Most sore throats are caused by viruses and do not require antibiotics.  Rest.  Drink lots of fluids.  Gargle with warm salt water 4 x/day.  Take Tylenol (acetaminophen) up to 4 times/day if you have a fever or feel uncomfortable.  If your symptoms do not improve in 4-5 days you should have a strep test.  If strep throat is not treated with antibiotics, it can lead to serious consequences.  DON'T SMOKE!

i am experiencing a bit soreness in my throat and i am afraid if i got strep throat and what should i do. my labmate was diagnosed with mononucleosis last week and he has been taking rest since then. i am worried if i also got sick.

Take it early : Best would be to see your doc if  possible. A physical exam with tests including rapid strep and testing for mono will likely clarify the diagnosis.

Bacteria vs Viruses: I love this question.  Strep throat is a bacterial infection with a severe bug known as streptococcus.  It is quite debilitating and contagious.  One with strep throat usually has fever, pain, difficulty swallowing and then secondarily symptoms in the ears and with the fever, increased heart rate and some muscle aches.

Can be normal : The mono infection can last for 6 - 9 months.  strep throat is more common in the spring and summer. A UTI happens more frequently in women in their 20s and teenagers who are sexually active.I recommend plenty of fluids and rest to allow your body to fight the mono infection.   if you're tired, going to a physical therapist for reconditioning. some  lab work for mono can be positive for months.

Mono & Strep? Yikes!: That would be a really awful combo to have but i'm not sure that it would explain numbness on your lips. Numbness is a concerning symptom and deserves to be more fully explored by your doctor (who you should be following up with closely if you really have mono and strep).

Can be identical : Occasionally a strep germ will produce a characteristic sandpaper like rose colored rash. Mono does not. Withoutb that clue they can appear identical. Testing is the main way to sort them out.

mono long lasting: Mono last longer and has weakness and fatigue compare to strep.
Strep throat is short lasting less than 5 days.

Mononucleosis and: Strep pharyngitis, although may share in some of the symptoms, are two very distinct conditions. Mono is caused by a virus (Ebstein Barr) and Strep by a bacteria (Streptococcus Group A). They are both contagious, but Mono tends to cause symptoms for a longer time and there is no known treatment (except rest and fluids) and Strep is usually self-limiting and  easily treated with antibiotics.
