It stays in your body indefinitely. Some stents are uncoated (bare metal), some are coated with medications in order to prevent further blockage.

The : The good news is that your heart is not failing, which would have been detected on the ultrasound of your heart. When this occurs your heart does does pump blood effectively which ultimately results in fluid accumulation in your lower extremities.
As far as why you have swollen ankles/legs its hard to say. You may need to decrease your salt intake. Also if you have any pain, redness, or tenderness in your leg(s) then your doctor may need to do an ultrasound of your lower extremities in order to rule out blood clots.
I suggest you schedule a follow up visit with your doctor in order to investigate this problem further.

One sign of heart fa: Swollen ankles (&amp; increase in water weight) is one sign of heart failure (HF). Being short of breath doing usual activities is another. Atrial fibrillation &amp; heart failure often co-exist: it's a chicken-or-egg debate about which sets of which. Ekg: An EKG is an eletrical tracing of the heart activity. Damaged muscle or conduction tissue creates an abnormal EKG.  Cardiac enlargement can be present with a normal EKG. So can early coronary disease. And so can a valve disease.

Hypertension and valve problems are high on the list of likely causes; however, in the case of a person exposed to a cardiotoxic chemotherapy drug, one must consider this as well.  The toxic drug effect is cumulative; act quickly.
