: Mitral regurgitation (MR) is a common finding on echocardiography but can be difficult to quantify due to multiple dynamic factors that affect severity of MR and the three-dimensional (3D) nature of the jet, i.e. it is dynamic reading which depends on several data not just a simple area measurement so the severity of MR is estimated and dictated by the cardiologist.

Labetalol dose usual: Yes. The dose of 100 mg of labetalol is the normal  starting dose. This is in the class of drugs called beta blockers and they are preferred first line meds for rhythm problems. For women labetalol is the best choice out of this class as it is safe in pregnancy.

Backflow: The mitral valve is the between the left atrium and the left ventricle. As the left ventricle fills with blood, the blood in the left ventricle starts pushing on the mitral valve like the leaflets floating and when the ventricle squeezes, the mitral leaflets don't appose enough and allow some blood to flow back to the atrium instead of forward to the aorta.
