Skin flora: Skin flora are bacteria that are normally found living on our skin. When present in a urine culture, it typically means that the specimen was contaminated (e.g., the urine touched something before it got into the sterile specimen cup). I would recommend a repeat culture, using a catheterized specimen if possible.

Probiotic/ prebiotic: Prebiotic medicated feminine wipes are now available. Oral probiotics are also helpful. Discuss with your gynecologist.

Neg for infection: Hello. The interpretation of your urine culture just indicates that it did not grow any abnormal bacteria that would suggest any infection. There is always healthy bacteria present on the skin and on the urogenital surface, and your urine culture grew only those. If you are having urinary infection symptoms, I would suggest following up with your physician for examination and re-collection.

Abnormal flora: It sounds like your vaginal bacterial balance is out of whack. You may need some antibiotics, and i would follow that up with a vaginal probiotic to help build up your healthy bacteria. Your doctor should know what to prescribe. When you've completed that treatment, you can try going to whole foods to find a "vaginal" probiotic. (it won't help much to take it orally. Must insert vaginally).

Where?: A mixture of bacteria is normally present in the skin, mouth, colon, and vagina. What specimen was tested and why was the test done.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form.  Drink enough water daily so that your urine is mostly colorless.
Practice safe sex.

Not necessarily: Would need full clinical correlation. Why was the ua and c&s ordered and how was it collected. Although mixed bacterial flora seldom means infection, it also does not exclude the possibility of infection.  Discuss this with the doctor who ordered these studies.

: The report indicates that too many different types of germs were found to clearly indicate an infection. This finding implies contamination from common skin germs. The wording suggests the specimen sat at room temperature for a lengthy period and allowed contaminants to reproduce. If an infection is suspected, collect another sample with better technique &amp; refrigerate until delivery to lab.

BV: This bacteria is always present in small amounts in a healthy state, but if it overgrows it can cause BV (bacterial vaginosis), which is not an STI (sexually transmitted infection), but it can cause a discharge and a foul odor. It can be treated with antibiotics.
