i am on 30mg mirtazapine dr wants to introduce 10mg amytriptoline for pain are these two tablets ok together?

Accepted Answer

Yes: You can expect a little more sedation and potentially some side effects from the amitriptyline that you didn't have from mirtazapine.  For example, you could get some dry mouth and maybe a little constipation, but the amitriptyline dose he proposes is low.  Even though it is low, amitriptyline at that dose has been shown to be helpful for chronic pain, more so than mirtazapine.

would a 15mg tablet of mirtazapine/remeron work same way as cutting half a 30mg tablet?  might be silly question but wonder if there's an actual difference. e.g. i heard 15mg tab is more sedating. what about half of 30mg tab? thanks in advance.

Cutting: I don't think the cutting the pill in half would be any different from taking a smaller dose

Remeron (mirtazapine): I don't believe so. I know it does come in 15, 30 ; 45 mg tablets as well as a 15mg soltab.

Probably: I am not aware of a specific prohibition of it.  I assume you are talking about the real tablets and not the soltabs that are dissolving.  In any case, I am thinking that it should be fine although i would not assume that you should do this for all your medications.  Also, it may not taste very good if you do it this way as well!

Missing doses.: This would depend on the reason the medication is being prescribed, however one concern with missing doses of an antidepressant frequently is a loss of antidepressant effect. It is unlikely this would occur however with only missing two doses. Many people find mirtazepine to be quite sedating and the major effect may be a decreased ability to sleep on the nights when the dose is missed.

my friend takes 15mg mirtazapine daily he's just taken 5 tablets, i think are 75 in total is he safe?

No: while it is unlikely that 75mg of remeron (mirtazapine) will cause a fatal reaction, if it was taken as a self harm action, he needs to be assessed now. there area number of potential side effects which should be evaluated as well. then there is the issue of not following the physicians instructions. i have on rare occasion used 60mg but restless leg syndrome, weight gain and xs sedation.

is their a difference structurally between mirtazapine od and remeron (mirtazapine) tablets? can you easily switch from one to the other?

Delivery differs: Mitaprazine and mitaprazine od contain the same active ingredients to treat several psychiatric conditions . They differ in their delivery system which can affect how quickly the medication gets into your system and sometime how long it hangs out . You and your doc can decide which formulation may work best for you and your specific medical needs. Good luck !

i am thinking of reducing my mirtazapine dosage but i'm worried about symptoms returning. how soon would symptoms return once the tablet is stopped?

Talk with your doc!: Please do not make changes in your medication dose without discussing it with your psychiatrist first.  In some people symptoms return quite soon; in others it may take longer.  For most people, you want to be sure your depression and/or anxiety have been stable for at least 8 months - 1 year before considering tapering.

drug interactions duromine with mirtazapine can the y be taken together, i would only use 1/4 of a 15mg tablet,with a duromine 30mg?

Phentermine &amp;remeron: Phentermine is a stimulant, typically prescribed to help with wt loss. It can cause anxiety in some patients. There is no interaction with mirtazapine. I would, however, ask your prescribing doc as whether or not you should be taking these medications together, or what the risks, benefits and side effects of adding duramine to your meds could be expected to be in ur case anxiety? Insomnia? B well!

will 7.5mg of mirtazapine a night make me gain weight? i've seen on the internet people gain weight on this pill.

Probably not: It is unlikely.  Still, get on a scale occasionally to be sure.
