Anti reflux surgery: Gerd can be managed well with medications and diet manipulations. Avoiding alcohol and nicotine will help reduce your reflux. The decision to proceed to surgery is made over time, usually after medical therapies have been used, and egd/manometry studies show progression of damage to lower esophagus. Okay to ask for surgery referral to get details on your case.

Prpranolol: can cause flare up of your asthma and should really not be used in an asthmatic patient. Isuugest a call to the prescribing physician. GERD can also aggravate your ashtma- you need to have your physician address BOTH issues.

had laproscopic inguinal hernia repair 1 year ago. only feel mild discomfort in groin area.but having severe gerd problems lately, not able to burp properly. always feels full and feel uncomfortable and heavy chest. can this be related to my surgery?

Depends on severity: Do you just have GERD. Are your symptoms controlled on Medication, dietary change and weight loss? 
If so, then no, there is no need for surgery.

Rather have a full assessment to see if you actually require an operation. In this century, very few patients need or have indications for an operation.

Treat GERD first: Gerd itself is not that bad  the acid reflux causes lower esophageal ulcers , in long standing ulcers glandular atypical cells develop ( barret's ) eventually turns to cancer and if you are at this stage yes surgery is needed , other wise could safely treated with diet medications  preventing reflux observation for any change by biopsy.

It often is done with a hiatal hernia repair where you tighten the opening in your diaphragm that your esophagus comes through. Can be done laparoscopically, robotically, sometimes endoscopically.

Usually: Surgical treatment for gerd results in significant symptom improvement in over 95% of patients immediately after the surgery. Approximately  10% of patients will develop some heartburn years later, yet it is rarely back to the same degree as before surgery.
