More info: Was that on an IVP or CT scan? Why was the study done in the first place? Is there flank pain on both sides? Talk to the doctor who ordered the study.

Gyn or ID: Given you have PID - pelvic inflammatory disease, I think that's where the focus should be. A gyn doctor should be well suited to help you out. Sometimes other doctors need to get involved to form a 'team' and the 2nd doctor on that team would probably best be an ID doctor. Hope things improve soon.

i read that pid can be asymptomatic. is it possible for a person to have untreated bacterial vaginosis that becomes asymptomatic pid or pid that only has mild symptoms? if so, how could a person find out that they had pid after treating the bv?

: What is termed "bacterial vaginosis" (BV) is a localized vaginal overgrowth with typically unpleasant odor, and not "pelvic inflammatory disease" ,which may have more serious implications.  Some antibiotics used to treat BV may also treat "PID", but a repeat culture and an exam by your GYN physician will provide guidance.

so i took pills for chlamydia almost a week ago. dr said wasnt in enough pain during pelvic exm to be pid. im having mild constant pain. is it pid now?

Could be PID: With known chlamydial infection, any pelvic (lower abdominal) pain could be PID and should be checked out, no matter now mild. It isn't necessarily PID -- could just be anxiety about it, magnifying minor discomfort or normal body sensations. But better safe than sorry, so return to your doctor for further evaluation; or consider another doctor for second opinion.

i had chlamydia and pid when i had my pap done. could this cause it to come back with lpil mild dysplasia. dysplasia runs in my family too.

Yes, but the reason : Pid and chlamydia are both sexually transmitted diseases. Lgsil is caused by hpv, also a sexually transmitted disease. Therefore, if you have one form of std, you could easily have another. Dyslasia is not inherited. However, you should use condoms and barrier methods of contraception to prevent stds--and perhaps talk to potential partners before sex so you don't get another infection. Safe sex!

Possible PID: Your symptoms are consistent with PID, at least the pelvic and abdominal pain (not so much for burping etc), but other things cause same symptoms. If at risk for STD (new sex partner, partner with other partners, etc) PID is obviously a consideration. You should have been tested for chlamydia as well as gonorrhea, and also for vaginal infections like bacterial vaginosis. Follow up w/ your doctor.

Antibiotic: Pid is an infectious disease caused bacteria.  Therefore, antibiotic is the proper treatment.  The bacteria involved may or may not be sexually transmitted and in many cases multiple bacterial strains are involved.  The diagnosis is often clinical and generally cannot be confirmed accurately without sophisticated evaluation.  If antibiotic therapy doesn't result in resolution of pain, see your doc.

No, but...: Pid is infectious inflammation of the uterus and the fallopian tubes and possibly the pelvic space above the tubes, but men can certainly catch the causes of pid, which appear in men as inflammation of the urethra due to the gonococcus or chlamydia.  Other kinds of sexually transmitted disease can also be caught by both sexes, even though some of them are not associated with pid.

Most likely not: Most of the time pid is caused by a sexually transmitted infection, so since you haven't had sex you couldn't have an std.  However several times I have seen a woman who has never had sex get pid.  The infection comes from bacteria in the vagina for some reason we don't understand getting up into the uterus and causing the infection.
