Migraine Equivalent: Migraine symptoms without the head pain is not rare at all. These can occur in people with previous migraines, they tend to know that they are having what equals a migraine without the pain. Migraine Equivalent also may occur in those without prior headaches. If they are new,  over hours, or frequent then get evaluated.

Only way to find out: is to get scanned. A stroke is a medical emergency. Call your doctor. If he/she doesn't think you need to go to an ER, go anyway. Migrainous strokes are usually quite small but still not to be taken lightly. A CT is likely inadequate: for migrainous strokes, MRI is the test of choice. I hate unnecessary testing, so if I'M telling you to get scanned, you know I'm concerned.

Migraine: If neurologist ruled out other medical issues, then symptoms u r describing are part of the headache & they subside when the ha eases up.

Complex migraine?: Looks like he needs to consult a neurologist given how frequently he has migraines.  Stress and irregular eating and sleeping habit tend to trigger migraines. There are very effective treatment for migraine, and the sooner he gets to see a neurologist, the better his quality of life will be.

Migraine: If the any type of migraine gets very frequent, including the "visual" or "basilar" migraine, then there might be a need for preventive medicine. Please see a neurologist.

i had auras of colorful zig zags before a migraine . what causes auras to happen? my aura really affected my whole vision. is that normal for an aura?

?is it migraine: Apparent you have history of cardiac issues, and apparently also diabetes, and BP problems at a young age.  Although you could also have migraine auras from the neuronal suppression over the occipital area, I am more concerned about the circulation within the vertebrobasilar system, and would recommend a ct-angiogram study, which is quite benign but very useful.  Your aura characteristics may help.

"Common"?: Not sure what you mean by "common." It doesn't seem to be common for YOU. I recommend you look up "scintillating scotoma" &amp; "fortification spectra" &amp; see whether the descriptions fit your symptoms. Migraines can change over time, especially in women, as migraines are often exquisitely sensitive to either short-term or long-term changes in female hormones.

wake up in middle of night abruptly and jolt up - vision is full of flashing lights and shaky . over quickly and always remember it in morning . what could this be ? i suffer migraine and neuro said could be a type of migraine . never happens in day?

Aura: Migraine varies from person to person, and your form is likely termed "classical migraine", where the initial symptoms affect your eyes and later the headache develops.  This is a result of an electrochemical change in the back of the brain (occipital lobe).  Talk to your doctor about both preventative and abortive therapies.
