Watch digit use: You can just watch. Generally if an infant guards or refuses to use the injured part further evaluation is definitely warranted. 1 concern would be if there is  an injury to the growth plate.  Kids are very resiliant and learn to adapt. I would watch overall use.

See vascular doctor: The small blood vessels can develop an aneurysm or a structure to this area. If it is on the thumb side there are extra blood vessels to the rest of the pinky. The vascular or hand doctor can tell you if surgery is needed to protect the finger or can you live with it and not have it extend to the whole pinky.

Swollen finger: Go to ER immediately. You could have an infection which if not treated promptly, could result in possible blood infection or loss of function  of finger, or it could be autoimmune / lyme -like disease disease. Since the risk from infection is so great go to ER.
