metronidazole for sinus infection, is this okay?

Not my choice.: This is a good antibiotic for anaerobic bacteria but not for most of the organisms seen even in chronic sinusitis.

i have a horrible sinus infection and was wondering if i could take metronidazole 250mg? or if it would help or even give me some kind of relief?

: Don't take medications on your own. See a ENT specialist for exam and the medication to be prescribed that is best for your infection. Metronidazole is a Flagyl best used for skin infections, vaginal, gastrointestinal and oral infections.

Strange: Metronidazole is an antibiotic that is most often indicated for bacterial infections that may involve obligate anaerobes. I have never used it for sinusitis, though. I need to know how long this has been going on. I need other information. The association of "nasal odor" with ingestion of dairy products sounds strange. You should see your doctor, if you are worried enough.

Side seffects: Take the metronidazole on a very full stomach and call your prescribing physician. GI side effects are common with both.

Sinus infection: Metronidazole is not effective against s.Pneumoniae, h.Influenzae or m.Catarrhalis, the three most likely causative agents in sinusitis.  Not a great choice for a straightforward sinus infection.

No: Flagyl treats only anaerobic bacteria, which would be unlikely to cause sinusitis, especially acute sinusitis.  Antibiotics aren't usually recommended for sinusitis, but when they are, you need something other than flagyl.

Not likely to help: If you are on tetracycline, this will usually get a bacterial sinus infection. Sinus infection could  be viral and not going to be helped with antibiotics.

Sinus infection: I can think of no common reasons causing sinusitis that would be treated by flagyl. The answer is no.

: Sinus infections are usually triggered by upper respiratory viral infections. Get Covid and Flu vaccinations. Using a mask in public places will protect against respiratory infection and prevent sinus infections. Doing steam inhalation to help in clearing out the sinuses may shorten the time you experience this smell.

ive had a sinus infection for a little over two months now, and have gone through two weeks of amoxicillin,
its still not gone and im worried my sense of smell is going to be gone forever should i be worried ? i havent had it for the whole time?

Stop worrying!: Stop worrying and make a change. First of all the two conditions, sinusitis and anosmia may not be linked. Take hot showers, have a humidifier in your bedroom, flush the sinuses with saline (salt and water - weak) and sleep with the infected side uppermost with head on the side on pillows. That should make a difference. Change the antibiotic.  SEE DOCTOR
