See below: I am assuming that you have been on Methotrexate for some time.  If that is the case and your diarrhea and nausea are new, it may not be the methotrexate.  You could have an infection or something else going on.  Call your doctor for an evaluation.

a week ago i was given a dose of methotrexate for etopic pregnancy. tonight i have severe stomach pain, diarrhea and feel very off. is this normal?

Ectopic: Get into the er because even conservative treatment of an ectopic there can be a rupture.  But this may be normal.

Get 2nd opinion: Get a 2nd opinion in person, not just online like this. Both Methotrexate & Imuran (azathioprine) are immunosuppressants. As such, there are many risks as well as desired benefits. You didn't mention why you're taking mtx but it's important to discuss all your options w/your physicians(s), including newer versions if appropriate for your condition. Side effects: No but iit can cause liver damage over time in some patients make sure you are getting liver tests every 3 months.

Methotrexate SEs: Whoever is prescribing this methotrexate for you should be called at once. This medicine is very powerful and could have dangerous side-effects. I don't mean to scare you but you need answers and you should be seen by a doctor who can figure out what is going on. This medicine makes you more susceptible to infections, but could have other effects too and therefore you need to be monitored closely.

Not yet: Give it a few days. A viral intestinal tract infection or mild food poisoning will resolve on their own. Eat a soft, bland diet with no harsh roughage and drink adequate fluids. Use kaopectate or Imodium as needed. If symptoms persist or worsen a stool culture to check for pathogens is recommended.

What's the cause?: Not a weird question at all!  "plugging up" diarrhea will not cure an infection, fix an inflammatory process, improve an ischemic gut, or correct a functional issue.  Medical evaluation is recommended appropriate to the duration of your symptoms, associations (bleeding, weight loss, pain, vomiting), as well as your other medical co-morbidities.  Call your doctor please and get checked.
