i took metformin 500 mg and i was wondering how long after stopping that it was out of your system and could it cause a false positive drug test?

Metformin 500: Metformin 500 is usually taken twice a day - out of your system every 12 hours.

I don't think it can cause a faulse positive test if you are monitoring your blood sugar.

If you think the metformin associated blood glucose values are too high or too low please contact your doctor.

Probably: If there are drugs in the blood, they would probably also be found in the urine also, if the urine was tested.  If the blood contaminated the urine, the drugs may be there, but this may not be needed.

If the drugs are "protein-bound", they may only be found in the blood at times.

Some drugs are best tested for in the urine, some in the blood.

Between 1 and 3 days: This amphetamine is metabolized quite quickly, possibly as fast as 6 hours.  By products may be detectable but unlikely beyond 3 days

Depends on drug: Alcohol will disappear in a matter of hours, thc, cannabis, may be detectable for days.  Urine tests last longer than blood tests and are usually used for drug screening and thc may remain positive for weeks.

A day: Roxicodone (oxycodone) has a half-life of approximately four hours.  It will take at least 24 hours for it to be out of your system.  This assumes you are able to metabolize it in the normal amount of time.  Why are you taking this medication if you are concerned about drug tests.

Worried about you: Don't smoke weed for one yr, perhaps two...Then pass test you will.  Might even find that life is rosier, smells are better, and thinking/outlook/mood are clearer.  Worried that someone, who knows that a drug test is in the horizon, cannot abstain from using a substance which new research shows can increase risk for schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.  Please see doc.  You deserve better.

YES/NO: I assume you mean by " smoking" that you smoked marijuana, it usually can be detected 
up to 4 weeks after smoking, if they are testing for it, it may show in your system, though you are on the border for that.  I  suggest to stop smoking marijuana, as you may know it is associated with development  of what is referred  to as "amotivational syndrome" as well as  increased risk for psychosis.

Will be positive: If you're a regular user, and it sounds like you are, THC will show up in a blood test for up to 3 days.  Urine tests may be positive for the marijuanas metabolite THC-COOH for up to 30 days.  Consider submitting another question to us:  "What are the health effects of long term, regular marijuana use on my health?'"   That's something else you need to know.
