my 15 year old son was diagnosed with minor case metatarsal cuneiform exostosis, it has progressively gotten more serious. what can he do to treat it?

No self-treatment: Unfortunately, there is little he can do to treat a boney deformity. Wearing shoes that don't irritate the area will help with comfort and an arch support may reduce the stress that's causing the jamming of the joint. If those don't help, see a podiatrist to be evaluate for either a custom orthotic or surgical removal.

can metatarsal cuneiform joint exostosis go away and come back.  the bump is on my little toe bone almost exactly between  the toe and ankle?

Wow you just : Spread the anatomy around. Metatarsal cuneiform describes the midfoot. The toe and the ankle are not close by. Exostosis is merely a name for an overgrowth of bone, it is the samething as a spur. They disappear when they are surgically removed. They can come back. They comeback for the same reason they developed in the first place. Usually, pressure of some form. They do not magically disappear.

Go to the podiatrist: The region that you are describing is the midfoot and has too many structures, both soft tissue and bone, that can cause the symptoms you are describing.  See the podiatrist.

Why was test done?: Sounds like a bone scan or MRI  was done.  The findings are most likely a small fracture, infection, or arthritis. It would be helpful to know the symptoms, and why the test was ordered.

May need treatment: A subungual exostosis is a benign bony/cartilage prominence that develops under the nail, usually from pressure. If it is large enough or troublesome enough, then surgery may be the best way for it to "heal.".
