Chronic kidney dz: Chronic kidney disease stage 3 refers to estimated GFR 30-60 ml per minute. This is a large range of function.  If estimated GFR is close to 50, then FIL has excellent function for one kidney.  If estimated GFR is close to 30, then the solitary kidney is impaired.  Special diet is essential to limit strain on that kidney.  Expert renal advice is essential along with dietitian evaluation.

Stop licking lips: Try to stop licking the area as this will slow down the healing. Apply vaseline, vaniply ointment or aquaphor (if you are not allergic to wool) multiple times during the day and the area should heal.

Cold sore: Or oral herpes would be typical in the context of mild trauma to the lip. They can last up to 10 days, tend to crust. Other possibilities cannot be ruled out. See your doc if the lesion does not clear in couple of weeks
