are chest cramps serious? they have occurred on and off for several months on the left side. never happens during exercise.

Could be: Could be musculoskeletal, muscle spasms, lung problems or many other problems.  However, any chest pain (even if it doesn't occur during exercise) could be related to the heart, and should be checked out by a doctor asap.

It depends: On what kind of exercise you are doing and what is going on inside your body. You may somehow be triggering a spasm in your intestine during your exercise, for reasons yet unknown. You need to have a doctor take a good history on you, and find out more. If you also have cramps at other times, you need evaluation by a gastroenterologist.

Fatigue, dehydration: Probably the most likely causes for muscle
cramps is either fatigue or dehydration.
I say several cases in the first football game
of the season in the fourth quarter
usually if you are not in optimal shape or
you havent taken enough fluids the muscles
will cramp.
Better to try to avoid the problem in the first place.

why do you get cramps when you drink water during exercise?

Accepted Answer

Drinking too much: If you mean "stomach" cramps it  may be because your drinking too much at one time.  Make sure you have hydrated throughout the day before exercise.  Drink 8 ounces over the hour before exercise then drink an ounce (good mouthful) every 15 min during.  Eating properly - 3 balanced meals per day- are important too.

broke clavicle 6 yrs ago & i'm starting to have pain associated with it. numbness, shlder tightness/cramping & pain during exercise. what can  be done?

See an ortho doc: I have had an occasional patient who has had problems after a clavicle fracture. Most people do fine after these however, a small number of patients do not. It is possible to do reconstructive surgery on these and i refer to a very good orthopedist in my area (boston) who does these operations. If you are able to find an orthopedist who is interested in this condition, perhapsyou could get help.

: Exercise and/or low blood potassium. Blocked arteries above feet, at your age due to coarctation of the aorta the most common heart birth defect. Discus. With your Dr.

Yes: A cramping sensation can occur in any month in pregnancy.  Of course what is the difference between this cramping and threat of miscarriage.  Difficult question to always answer.  Benign cramping in 2nd trimester is constant and not cyclical.  It feels like constant pressure.  If you're worried at all, though, see your doctor and ask for a cervical length ultrasound to confirm cramping is benign.

Pelvic girdle laxity: One reason loose ligaments of pelvis.  Women with joint hypermobility syndrome (jhs) have. If can touch thumb back & down to your wrist & with locked knees touch both palms to the floor, you likely have this variant of ligament (gristle in lay terms) tautness.  Jhs found predominantly in women. As children could back bridge & put feet behind neck.  Jhs makes for easy childbirth & painful periods.
