Mephyton Allergy: Mephyton (phytonadione) is vitamin K.  Unlikely to have a allergy to vitamin, allergic reaction may be due to dye or flavoring in the medication.  Allergy reaction could include swelling of lips, tongue and face, hives or skin rash.

Not advisable: not advisable,  you may take them by mouth. The best vitamins are not in pills or syrup, they are in fresh leafy vegetable and fruits

No: Most do not require extra vit k.  Vit k may be beneficial for a select group of patients - those with intravenous feedings, those with malabsorption and those on long term antibiotics. Sometime pts with difficult to control INR while on Coumadin (warfarin) are given low dose vit k to help regularize their numbers.

Bleeding: Vitamin k is a cofactor in humans' ability to clot. When we don't have enough we have the potential to have severe bleeding. That is why brand new babies receive a dose of vitamin k.

Yes, but not best.: Although a parent can refuse vitamin k by injection (shot) for their newborn, the pediatric and family practice societies of both canada and the United States strongly recommend this approach, since studies have shown that it is the most effective way to protect a baby from hemorrhagic disease. If a shot is refused, then a series of three oral doses, given during the first 8 weeks, is recommended.
