Not allergy: Montelukast is relatively free of side effects and actually was approved as a category B drug.  As time went on, a small % of people developed insomnia . mood changes, and even psychologic symptoms . However these are not allergies but idiosyncratic reactions. I have not seen a case of montelukast allergy but it is potentially possible as with all drugs.

Alternate: Montelukast works in only 50%  of the people for congestion relief but has little effects on runny nose or sneezing.  Consider a nasal steroid and/or antihistamine.  There is no evidence that doubling up on the montelukast  works better.

: Montelukast may be associated with sleep disturbances. Discuss nasal saline, nasal steroid regimen with your physician.  This may help to control your symptoms. Avoid common allergens, and identify specific allergens by allergy testing. Avoid smoke and wear a mask when around others. The COVID 19 vaccination is recommended. The combination that you asked about should be fine. Report side effects.

: If possible, best to stop the combination for at least 2 weeks and see how one feels. Known allergies should be avoided and masking for environmental allergies can help reduce inhaled allergens as well. Improving Immune systems with Vitamins, good Nutrition and moderate exercising can also help.

Nasal spray: prescription nasal spray ( Flonase, Nasonex) should be tried first. May supplement with other pills if alone is not enough.

Yes: Sigulair (montelukast) is a leukotriene receptor antagonist used for the maintenance treatment of asthma and has the added benefit of relieving symptoms of seasonal allergies. In addition, montelukast is used for other conditions including exercise induced bronchospasm, AERD, and chronic urticaria (hives).This medication is NOT useful for the treatment of acute asthma attacks.

Pretty benign: Singulair (montelukast) is generally well tolerated. The biggest concern is that recent reports of psychiatric issues have been reported that would require stopping the medications.

Behavior/sleep: One of the side effects includes behavioral changes. Please review the product insert. There are a variety of options in your treatment. Please have an allergy test panel to determine what you are allergic to and then take measures to minimize exposure. Avoid dust, pollen, mold and other allergens.
