Lipitor (atorvastatin): Works better than Simvastatin for some people. Simvastatin controls cholesterol for many people though [watch out for maximum dose and possible interactions with your other drugs]. Good news: Lipitor is now available as atorvastatin, its generic form, so it's cheaper! remember about eating well and exercising too. Good question.

1 (up to 2) weeks: Statins clear the blood rapidly once daily dosing has stopped. While everyone's metabolism is unique, you should expect the medication will be out of the blood within 2 weeks (usually by 1 week).

i am finishing my refill of crestor (5 mg.) for chloresterol in a few days. can i then finish my last 10 days of lipitor (10 mg.) tablets that i had taken before crestor? same class of drug. am vacationing 10 days?

: Equivalent doses are not precisely defined. 5mgm of Crestor may be equivalent to 20 mgm of Atorvastatin(Lipitor). I do not believe that 10 mgm of Lipitor in place of  5mgm of Crestor will make a difference for 10 days. Depending on your LDL level, there could be an increase in in your level, but for the brief duration, it may not be significant. Diet during vacation may not be ideal though.

Lipitor (atorvastatin): In general, i like Lipitor (atorvastatin) better than tricor, as it does more things (as long as your body tolerates it ok).  Lipitor (atorvastatin) reduces bad cholesterol (ldl) and has some effect on trigylcerides (fats).  Tricor primarily reduces triglycerides, but doesn't have as large of an effect on ldl.

Crestor (rosuvastatin): And Lipitor (atorvastatin) are both effective statin drugs. Crestor is a bit more mg for mg potent than Lipitor (atorvastatin) but the outcomes with both drugs are similar. Lipitor (atorvastatin) can be had as a generic, Crestor is still on patent so is lots more expensive.

Black nail lines: It seems extremely unlikely that the Lipitor (atorvastatin) had anything to do with the black lines on your fingernails. There are two reasons: 1) this is not a commonly reported side effect of lipitor; and 2) real abnormalities of the nails go away only as the nail grows out, which takes weeks to months. If the lines went away in a matter of days, then it is more likely some coloration due to contact w somethin.

Probably not: Not a common side effect of lipitor (atorvastatin).  Could be reflux.  Tell your doctor.  If on lipitor (atorvastatin), you probably have high cholesterol.  May be "heart cough".

No: You should remain on Lipitor (atorvastatin) ! New guidelines : get LDL below 100 . Now if you can yourself to your ideal body weight , and can fallow a low fat diet , you can consider stopping Liitor

Lipids: The drugs you are taking are very good. You need low fat diet and at least half hour of aerobic exercise a day. Don't smoke.

It depends on your : Depends on what your weight was and what it is now, and how high your a1c hemoglobin was before you started on meds and what it is after loosing 50 lbs, which is good weight loss
as a rule if your aic comes down below 6.5 you may be tapered of Onglyza (saxagliptin) and follow the a1c , but i will suggest you stay on metformin as it is cheap and it may help you to maintain your weight.But you should keep lipititor.
