Automatic vs manual: Automactic blood-pressure measuring devices and manual ones are  typically used for measuring your BP with a cuff. In the critically ill patient, a catheter maybe inserted in the blood vessel/heart to measure the pressure. Otherwise, there isn't much else. Chronic high BP can cause heart/kidney problems so we use ekg to check heart, ultrasound to check kidneys, but not measuring bp. Good luck.

Evidence is firm: when BP igreater than 140/90 and lowered one lives longer and healthier.

COVID 19: Is he symptomatic for COVID 19?  Have you repeated the blood pressure to insure it is accurate?  He may need immediate medical evaluation. Get urgent care for difficulty breathing, blue lips or face, marked persistent chest pain/ pressure or new onset confusion.
