: You have to abide by the advice of your electrophysiologist here especially where you're switching from amiodarone without omitting it for a day or two before starting multaq. The iodide component has been taken out of multaq giving it a better tolerance than amiodarone, but it's felt to be less effective than amiodarone by many of us who have seen it used.

Depends: In order to safely prescribe medication for a fib it is important to know more about your heart, specifically whether there are any abnormalities.   There are drugs other than amiodarone and tikosyn (dofetilide) but the do not have the same efficacy (success rate ).
