Normal: After menopause, your estrogen levels decrease.  Estrogen helps to grow the uterine lining before menopause.  Atrophy means the lining is thin because of low hormone levels.  These are all normal changes in the uterus due to menopause.

post meno cramps. no bleeding. 5 yrs menopause (im 47). ultrasound shows atrophic uterus & left ovary has a simple 1.6 cm cyst. everything else on u/s normal.radiologist said no imaging followup required. my mother had colon cancer.is cyst a concern?

: All laboratory/imaging results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, a small cyst in the ovary is not a cause for concern and it is not likely to explain your symptoms.    Wish you good health!

Interpretation: A fibroid is a smooth muscle growth in your right section at the top of your uterus next to the right Fallopian tube. It is in the process of "falling apart"(degenerating) which can cause bleeding and pain. The right ovary is shrunken (atrophic) which is common in post menopausal women.

i recently had an endometrial ablation. at the time of the ablation i was on ocp. my surgical note says anteverted and anteflexed 8-week sized uterus, atrophic cavity, normal tubal ostia bilaterally. is this normal?

: Yes this is normal when taking oral contraceptive pills which keeps the endometrium minimal in size as part of its pregnancy protective method.

pelvic ct reports says "atrophic vs surgically absent uterus."i had total hysterectomy 10yrs ago.rn says "this implies radiologist didn't see uterus".considering the def of atrophy does that make sense or do i need to keep fighting for image re-read?

: There is nothing to "keep fighting for". Accept the interpretation and advice of the RN. Your uterus is gone. It is conceivable that a severely atrophic uterus would be so small it could not be seen, and the radiologist was just being careful to cover that possibility in case you had not had the hysterectomy.

Sonogram report: It is important to have a visit with your doctor after having any radiology study done so that the results can be explained. Nulliparous is a term used to indicate a woman who has not been pregnant. Endometrial thickness is a measurement of the lining of the uterus. This measurement varies in premenopausal women depending on where they are in the menstrual cycle.

Not much: 1. thickened endometrium is common in fertile women.
2. No sac means that if you were trying to get pregant, there is no evidence at this time.  If you think you may be pregnant, do a pregnancy test and if positive repeat US in two weeks.
3. polycystic ovaries is another common finding in fertile women.  This can be seen in a disease associated with infertility.  talk to your doctor.
